Maydene (Gettys) Heintz of Quincy passed away Saturday morning, June 16, 2018 at the age of 88.

Maydene was born on February 12, 1930 in Ft. Madison, Iowa to Maurice and Fannie (Dow) Gettys. She was an only child and grew up on her family’s farm in Denmark, Iowa. She attended school in Denmark from first grade through high school. Maydene was very active during her school years and participated in many activities and clubs including student government, journalism, band, and 4-H. She particularly enjoyed being in school plays. Maydene excelled academically. She wrote a winning essay and placed second in the county spelling contest (she misspelled the word crocodile). Maydene was class salutatorian, graduating from Denmark High School in 1947.

Maydene was awarded a scholarship to Iowa Wesleyan College, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. While attending college, she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and had many fun memories. She completed a Two Year Normal Course of Instruction and received her teaching certification.

After college, Maydene taught second grade in Letts, Iowa for five years. She adored her pupils, as they did her. Maydene attended summer school in Greeley, Colorado, where she met her future husband Howard Heintz.

Maydene and Howard were married on June 13, 1954 in Denmark, Iowa. They began their married life in Montana where 3 of their 4 children were born. In 1960, they settled in Quincy, Washington where their youngest child was born. They were devoted parents and very proud of their children.

Maydene was a full time homemaker. As a homemaker, she worked hard and provided a caring and welcoming home. She was a member of the Happy Homemakers club in Quincy and made many friends. Maydene was an excellent cook and baker, making it seem effortless (Much to the dismay of those who aspired to cook and bake like her). In her spare time, she was an avid reader, enjoyed a favorite soap opera, crossword puzzles, going to coffee and walks with friends. Maydene also loved animals. When grandchildren entered her life, she and Howard selflessly entertained and encouraged them to visit often and stay as long as they liked.

Maydene was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Quincy. She taught Sunday School and attended Bible study groups. Maydene was a true Christian all of her life and it showed in everything she did. She touched the lives of all who knew her and will be forever in our hearts.

Maydene was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Howard: her parents: and a special aunt and uncle.

She is survived by her four children; Susan (Ron) Huxtable of Quincy, JoAnn (Byron) Hensley of Renton, Gary (Pam) Heintz of Electric City and Allison Adams of Quincy. 10 grandchildren: Leigh-Ann (Sean) Meade, Lauren (Ben) Slager, Ian Huxtable, Harley Hensley, Matthew (Carina) Hensley, Brandon Heintz, Jordon Heintz, Jacey Heintz, Randy Adams and Rachel Adams; 4 great-grandchildren, Harper Hensley, Holden Hensley, Amelia Meade and Hannah Heintz (on the way).

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 716 3rd Ave SE, Quincy, WA.
