Lorain Elaine Greenwalt
1927-2018

Lorain Greenwalt, almost 91, peacefully passed away October 5, 2018. She was born October 14, 1927 to Conrad and Marie Rossman in Eaton, Colorado, where they lived and farmed for many years. It was here that Lorain learned many of the skills that would carry over to her adult life, although milking cows was one chore she choose to ‘forget’. She met her life-long partner, Alfred Greenwalt and married on January 15, 1947.

In 1954, Alfred & Lorain moved, with a caravan of other family members and friends, to Quincy, Washington to begin their farming life in the new Columbia Basin.

Lorain was a homemaker and farmers wife—which meant she did many jobs around the farm, like driving truck during harvest, to help Alfred become a successful farmer. She was a proud member of the Saint Paul Lutheran Church for 63 years.

Lorain’s interests included canning & making wonderful German dishes, the recipes having been passed down through generations. An excellent bowler, she was a member of bowling leagues, and later took up golf. Lorain loved watching sports, including Gonzaga basketball; cards & games, especially pinochle & bridge, and was extremely lucky at blackjack. Alfred & Lorain enjoyed traveling throughout the country, driving from one corner to the other. The drive was as important as the destination.

Lorain is survived by 3 children: Susan Wilson (Greg), Gerald Greenwalt (Sandee), and Judi Godfrey, plus 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Alfred, her loving husband of 70 years; her 3 brothers; and her son-in-law, Brien Godfrey.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 716 3rd Ave. SE, Quincy, Washington. Luncheon to follow.
