Obituary for Louise Elizabeth Young (Foren)

Louise Elizabeth Young (Foren)
Louise Elizabeth Young of Quincy passed away on March 5, 2013 at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.

Louise Elizabeth Young nee Foren was born in Burns, OR on January 16, 1914, during a blizzard. Her parents were C. Everett Foren and Rose E. Foren nee Smith, both of whom were the children of Oregon pioneers.

Married at 17 to Rex Folkman and widowed at 20, Louise moved from Bend, OR, with her son, Donald Rex Folkman and her parents, Everett and Rose Foren, to the Yakima Valley near Granger where her parents leased Indian land for farming.

In 1935, at a Granger High School dance she met Frank W. Young, a young man who drove school bus and had returned to Granger High to complete his education. They were married in July of that year.

Frank and Louise were married 71 years before Frank was taken in death at the age of 91. Together they enjoyed many activities. They especially enjoyed dancing together as they had when they first met. Later fishing, hunting, golf, picking huckleberries and mushrooms, camping and travel filled their time.

Frank and Louise lived with their children in the Granger area from the late 1930’s to the time they retired and moved to Yakima where they both worked for the Hop Assn. Their businesses included a farm on the N. Granger Rd., the Zillah Warehouse Co. in Zillah, and orchards at the corner of the N. Granger Rd and E. Zillah Drive adjacent to the Jones Farms.

In 1992 Frank and Louise moved to Quincy to be near their son and grandchildren. They continued their love of golf and travel as long as they were able. In their 80s they moved into The Cambridge, an assisted living facility in Quincy where they happily resided until their deaths.

Louise was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Quincy.
Their many family members will long remember this loving couple’s lives, their love of family and the example they set for all of us.

The family would like to thank the staff of The Cambridge for the loving care that was given to Frank and Louise.

Louise is survived by her son, Frank W. Young, Jr. and his wife Eva of Quincy, her daughter, Elizabeth (Betty) and her husband Tom Purkett of Spokane, grandchildren Marrie Young of Moses Lake, Everett and Patti Young of Plains, MT, Lila and Terry Schwint of Quincy, Willard and Stacey Young of Quincy, Frank Young III of Quincy, Paul Purkett of Spokane and John and Beth Purkett of Longmont, CO; 18 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Frank W. Young, Sr., her parents and brothers, her first husband, Rex Folkman, her son Donald Rex Folkman and her grandson, Michael Folkman.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday, March15, 2013 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Quincy.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Cambridge Activity Fund, 301 H Street SW., Quincy, WA 98848
