Obituary for Naomi Belle Elliott (Ross)

Naomi Belle Elliott (Ross)
Naomi Belle Elliott was born to Reverend Herbert Ross and Eva Clara Ross in St. John, Kansas on June 30, 1910. She died peacefully in her sleep on July 11, 2013 in Quincy, Washington at the age of 103. Naomi married Lawrence (Larry) Elliott on June 23, 1935 at her parents' home in Kansas. At the time of Larry's death in 1986, they had been married 51 years. They had three daughters, Mary, Nancy and Susan. Naomi leaves 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Naomi and Larry moved to Spokane, Washington in 1943, followed by a move to Quincy, Washington in 1952 when they purchased Larry & Ed's Grocery and Hardware Store.

Naomi received her bachelor's degree in education from Southwestern College in Kansas, but did not return to teaching until 1956 when she took a home economics position at Quincy High School, retiring in 1974. Upon retirement Naomi and Larry spent their winters in Arizona until his death in 1986.

Naomi was very active in the Quincy Presbyterian Church where she played the organ for Sunday services. She enjoyed gardening, handwork, painting landscapes, playing the organ and piano, but most especially she enjoyed her family and the time spent with them. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a big part of her life.

Naomi is survived by her three daughters, Mary (Bob) Poldervart of Auburn, Washington, Nancy (John) Street of Quincy, Washington and Susan Lombard of Woodinville, Washington.

The family wishes to thank the staffs at Cambridge and Quincy Valley Care Center for their excellent care and compassion shown to Naomi.

A celebration of Naomi's life will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at the Quincy First Presbyterian Church.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Quincy Presbyterian Church or to a charity of your choice.
