Obituary for Clayton Patton
January 1, 2014, Quincy resident Clayton Patton passed away peacefully at the age of 93 at Quincy.
Clayton was born in 1920 in Roundup, Montana, to Russell Patton Sr. and Florence Patton (née Tucker). Clayton grew up on farms near Nyssa in Eastern Oregon with his older brother Russ Jr. and younger sister Lois. He married Edna Wilson in 1941.
In 1949, he made his first trip to look at Quincy with Sid Flanagan. He sold his farm in Oregon and moved to Quincy in 1950 with the intention to farm, but after he arrived he saw there was no John Deere dealership. At age 30, he became the youngest John Deere franchise owner in the United States. Within a year his brother Russ Jr. joined him.
In 1963, Clayton bought into a Seattle grain trading company and moved to the Seattle area. He was a successful businessman in farm equipment, land investment, grain trading, trucking and truck stops. In 1984 he became a partner with his sister Lois in a Seattle area real estate brokerage with over 100 agents.
In 1993, after 30 years, Clayton moved back to Quincy to live out his retirement years. His favorite activity was driving vacations with his wife, Edna.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Russ Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Patton of Quincy, his sister, Lois Rowe of Kirkland, his daughter Linda Morris of Quincy and son Ron (Roberta) Patton of Bellevue and grandchildren, Kelly (Fred) Hobbs, Steve Reynolds and Mary (Dusty) Rostad and 7 great-grandchildren: Michelle, Clayton and Dallas Hobbs, Andrew and Randi Reynolds, Anais and Erik Rostad.
Clayton will be interred at the Quincy Valley Cemetery on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 2 PM – there will be a viewing from 12 PM (noon) – 1 PM prior to the service at Scharbach’s Columbia Funeral Chapel.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday February 15, 2014, at the Faith Community Church, 1005 10th Ave. SW, Quincy, WA at 1:00PM; luncheon to follow.
