Obituary for Donna May Flynn

Donna May Flynn
Donna May (Jones) Flynn returned to her Heavenly Home on March 29, 2016 at the age of 89. She was born on January 5, 1927 to Evan and Edna Jones in Union, Utah. At the age of 4 her family moved to Blackfoot, Idaho where she grew up and graduated from high school.

She loved sports, especially swimming in the river and was captain of the softball team. As an adult, she was a competitive bowler and took 1st place at a tournament with the high score of 238. She won several blue ribbons in track for running and the softball throw.

Throughout her entire life, she was a fierce card player and taught her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to play pinochle.

Growing up with seven brothers and one sister taught her the art of cooking at an early age. She made this into a career and served as head baker for the Quincy School District for many years. She was the primary bread maker in their home, usually kneading dough for 12 loaves at a time.

She has been active in the LDS her entire life and served in many callings, but her favorite was working with the children in Junior Sunday School.

In 1945 she married Roy Whiting and had her first four children; Ken, Connie, Gayla, and Ron. In 1961, she married Eldon Flynn who had three children; Don, Debbie & Sharon, and Janice arrived later.
She enjoyed her retirement by continuing her lifelong love of cooking, gardening, canning, embroidery, and crocheting. In her seventies she was still playing Annie I Over and doing headstands with the grandkids and great grandkids, when she wasn’t feeding them or teaching them to play cards.

She is survived by her spouse of 55 years, Eldon, children; Ken (Sharon) Whiting, of Camas, WA, Connie (Bill) Hobbs, of St. Anthony, ID, Gayla (Brent) Petersen, of Quincy, Ron Flynn of Richland, WA, and Janice Flynn of Quincy, Stepchildren; Don Flynn of Washougal, WA, Debbie West of Hermiston, OR, Sharon (Dean) Wohl of Yakima, WA and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, brother, Dale (Millie) Jones of Creswell, OR and sister, Virginia Atwood of Bend OR.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, one granddaughter and two great granddaughters.

Viewing will be from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m on Monday, April 4, 2016 with a celebration of her life to follow at 10:30 a.m. all being held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1102 2nd Ave SE, Quincy, WA. Concluding services will follow in the Quincy Valley Cemetery.
