Obituary for Zane C Newton

Zane Calvert Newton passed away on May 28, 2016 at the age of 92. Zane was born in Warrenton, Oregon to father Isaac and mother Bertie (Doney) Newton. The family lived in Warrenton then moved to Newberg, Oregon and in 1938 moved to Molalla, Oregon where Zane graduated from high school.

Following graduation Zane enlisted in the US Navy. Before departing for service Zane married Shirley Kleinsmith on October 3, 1942 in Oregon City, Oregon. Zane was stationed aboard a Naval Training Sub and served at various naval bases on the East Coast. Shirley spent some time following him from city to city. Upon serving his time Zane returned to Oregon City.

Zane was a machinist at Crown Zellerback’s Oregon City paper mill. Zane and Shirley bought a home in Beaver Creek, Oregon. They had three children Larry, Carol and Michael and moved to George, Washington in 1957. Zane farmed and started planting orchards in 1963. Carol and her husband Murray Michael took over the orchard upon Zane’s retirement. Larry later returned to the orchard as well and operated a portion for many years.

Following retirement Zane and Shirley split their time between Arizona and George. Shirley passed away on April 3, 1996. Zane later found companionship with Joy Rogers. They moved to East Wenatchee where they made their home. Upon Joy’s death, Zane moved back to Quincy.

Zane is survived by his son Larry and wife Carolyn of Bremerton, his daughter Carol Michael of Quincy and his son Michael of San Francisco as well as three grandchildren, Sherrie and husband Todd Thaemert of Quincy, Amy and her husband Elmer Hunt of Quincy and Kevin and his wife Erin Michael of Issaquah and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters as well as Shirley and Joy.
Graveside services for the family will be held at a later date.
