Obituary for James N McCreary

James N McCreary
James N. McCreary, of Quincy, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, was called home on August 7, 2017 after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born in Bismarck, North Dakota on May 17, 1955 to Ross and Clara McCreary, and was raised in Quincy on their Winchester family farm. James was the youngest of 7 children. He graduated from Quincy High School in 1973. He then met the love of his life, Kim Stephens. The two married on September 25, 1976. They have 3 children, Summer, Jeremy and Peyton.

James worked at Witco/Celite for 16 years and was a local farmer. He then retired in 2009. His biggest passion and love was his family. Everything he did or went included his family. He enjoyed watching his kids grow and took great pride in everything they enjoyed. He coached some youth sports and loved watching them play sports, dance and drag racing. He would do anything to put a smile on his children’s faces. He loved the outdoors including camping, fishing and watching for deer. After he retired he liked gambling at casinos, spending time at the family cabin, driving his corvettes, watching westerns while drinking his coffee, and he continued his love of family by watching his grandkids sporting events.

James had a one-of-a-kind spirit. His infectious sense of humor made it easy for people to like him. Some of those at his son’s gym may have even been asked to feel his biceps or listen to his jokes. He enjoyed “shooting the bull” with people, and liked to make people laugh. He had a giving soul and enjoyed helping those in need. He felt that one small gesture for somebody in need could change their life, and that one gesture could make a miracle out of them. He said one person in need can do amazing things and shock people.

He is survived by his wife, Kim; daughter, Summer (Ryan) Keller of East Wenatchee, WA; Jeremy (Micaiah) McCreary of Quincy, WA; Peyton McCreary of Quincy. Grandchildren, Cameron, Lane, Wyatt, Ashton, and Grace. Brothers, Ross (Beverly) McCreary, John McCreary, Dave (Debbie) McCreary, and sister, Naomi Mason and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Clara, his brother Aaron and sister Olive.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 14th, 2017 at the Faith Community Church 1005 10th Ave SW, Quincy, WA. Concluding services to follow at the Quincy Valley Cemetery. A food reception will follow at the church to share many wonderful memories of James.
