Obituary for Jack Gottschalk
Jack Edward Gottschalk, 70, of Quincy passed away on February 27, 2019 surrounded by his family.
Jack was born August 17, 1948 to Donald and Margaret Gottschalk in Moscow Idaho. He lived in the Palouse area until 1955 when the family moved to Sunnyside, WA where his father worked for John Deere. His family moved to Quincy in 1965 so his father could run the John Deere shop in Quincy, while Jack stayed and graduated from Sunnyside HS. After graduation, Jack went to work in Quincy for John Deere until he got the letter from Uncle Sam. He entered the United States Army in 1968, being trained in artillery. He spent 14 months in Vietnam on the DMZ with a 105 battery, where he became a gunner and a forward observer. Upon returning to the US, he returned to work at John Deere, working there until he retired in 2010.
He married Darlene Cullen of Sunnyside WA. They lived in Quincy and Goldendale and had two children Eddie & David.
Jack was very active in the American Legion. During his years of service, he participated in hundreds of parades and dedications. He was a big part of the Honor Guard doing the commands for over 1000 military funerals. He was also on the Department of Washington Color Guard.
Jack liked deep sea fishing at West Port where he went at least once or twice a year, fishing the Klickitat river in early fall for Salmon with his best friend from High School and golfing with his good old buddies all over Grant County. He also bowled in his early years and bowled a perfect 300 game, being the only person to get a perfect game in league play in Quincy.
Jack married Barbara Reed in 1991. He helped her run the liquor store on weekends and holidays until she retired in 2012.
Jack was preceded in death by his mother, father and older brother Donald L Gottschalk. He leaves behind his wife Barbara, two sons Edward (Veronica) of Kennewick, David (Misty) of Quincy, four step children Laura (Jason), Sheri, Jason & Brenda (Jay), 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
He will be missed by many.

A memorial service will be held at the Quincy Valley Cemetery on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 10:00 AM.
A reception will be held at the American Legion Hall, 276 8th Ave NW, Ephrata following the cemetery service.
