Obituary for Frank Willard Young Sr.

Frank W. Young Sr., 92, of Quincy, a former Yakima Valley resident, died on Monday, February 19, 2007 at the Quincy Valley Medical Center. He was born on October 12, 1914 in Duluth, MN to Willard and Lila Belle (French) Young. He moved with his family to the Upper Yakima Valley at the age of nine months, later they moved to Granger, where he attended school, graduating from Granger High School in 1935. Frank married Louise E. Foren on July 20, 1935 in Ellensburg. They made their home in the Yakima Valley until 1991, when they moved to Quincy to be closer to their family. He was a member of the Army Air Corp Civilian Pilots Training Organization from 1943 - 1944. Frank started working as a farm laborer, later owning 80 acres of orchard and managed the Zillah packing warehouse in the Yakima Valley. He also worked as a USDA inspector for several years before retiring at the age of 72. Frank and Louise were snowbirds for over 20 years, enjoying golf and steelhead fishing. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Quincy and a life member of the Quincy Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Louise Young of Quincy, son Frank Young Jr. of Quincy, daughter Elizabeth Purkett of Spokane, seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, and two sisters.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, February 23, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Quincy.
