Obituary for Julia A Smith

Julia Arlene Colvin Smith
Julia A Smith, 89, our beloved Mother and Nana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 7, 2020, at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee of natural causes.

She was born on August 15, 1930, in Hebron, Nebraska to Clarence and Aretta (McMillan) Colvin, one of 4 children. She moved with her family to the Soap Lake area of Washington when she was a young child, prior to moving to Yakima. She met her future husband at the age of 7 when he became a ward of the state, housed with her family, and knew instantly that one day she was going to marry him. On Jan 15, 1950, she did; Julia became the wife of Don C. Smith and together, they raised four children in Yakima and Sunland, moving to Sunland permanently in the late 70s. The first few years of their marriage was spent in the Air Force. It was during Don's last duty assignment in California that he contracted polio, and would spend the rest of his life in a wheel chair. Julia not only took care of four children, but also assisted her husband to live as normal of a life as possible.

Julia was an active member of the Footprinters in Yakima, the George Seniors, the Quincy Garden Club, and the line dancing club in Ephrata. She loved to do art, and stopped one credit shy of getting her degree in it. Her love of artistic pursuits was also carried out through crocheting, cross-stitch, and knitting. When not working on her crafts or spending time with her family, she loved to spend time in her rose garden. In her later years, she also enjoyed her pups, Deli and Jacques, and later, Sprinkles.

She is survived by 3 of her children, Pamela (Duane) Pratt of Yakima, Darlene (Tim) Harris of Quincy, and Don (Gloria) Smith of Selah; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Julia was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, her daughter Sharon (Bob) Tallent of Kennewick, grandson Tom, great-grandson Don, her parents and siblings, and a nephew, Alan Colvin of Alaska.

At this time, the family is postponing the memorial service due to Covid-19.
