Obituary for David Allen Matney

David Allen Matney was born September 17, 1954 in Portland Oregon to Charles and Cecelia Matney. After graduating from high school in 1972 David enlisted in the United States Navy. David served honorably until his discharge in 1979 and enlisted in the Air National Guard, serving one enlistment when his commitment to public service moved from the military to law enforcement. His career in law enforcement spanned over 30 years where he served in roles as a patrol officer and detective until his retirement in 2013. David’s commitment to public service moved him into various roles after his law enforcement career. He served as an investigator for the Grant County Prosecutors Office and was appointed to serve as the Grant County Coroner. After David’s public service career, he volunteered at Grant County Child Protective Services and a private investigator until he permanently retired.
David was a kind and gentle man who had a passion for helping others. He had a dry and uncanny personality where he could sight phrases or passages verbatim from music, movies, and books and was an amateur cartoonist where no person or incident would go unnoticed without his ability to describe and draw a cartoon that accurately depicted an event. In his leisure time he enjoyed listening to music, reading, and most of all, playing with his grandchildren.
David is survived by his sons Bryan David Matney, Ephrata, Washington, Kyle Allen Matney (Malia) of Las Vegas, Nevada, grandchildren, Connor, Charlotte, and Liam, and three brothers, Thomas, Keven, and Joseph Matney. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother.
