Obituary for Harvey J Schaapman

Harvey Jay Schaapman, 69, of Moses Lake Washington passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021, at University of Washington Hospital in Seattle due to complication from his heart condition.

He was born July 20, 1952, to John & Henrietta (Schoonhoven) Schaapman in Modesto, California. He graduated from Ripon High School in 1971 and moved to Columbia Basin to be closer to his family in 1974.

He farmed and worked custom harvesting in the Ephrata/Quincy area for 20+ years. In 1983 he bought and started his own family farm and for about 15 years farmed in the Quincy area. Harvey also pursued a career in real estate by investing in properties and becoming a licensed real estate broker in Washington selling mostly commercial and ag related properties for 40 years. He eventually moved to Moses Lake.

In his recent years he has enjoyed living on the lake and working on different tasks, loving to tinker with rebuilding or fixing small mechanical projects and enjoying being semi-retired.

His favorite pastimes were visiting with close friends, talking about current politics, researching laws and how things work in detail, his love of learning was evident, and he adored spending time with his grandkids. He was a treasured Grandfather and impacted each of his grandkids deeply.

He is survived by his three children; his son Adam Schaapman, his daughters Chelsey (Frank) Fekkes and Alisha (Wade Lesser) Schaapman; his seven grandchildren, Ryker, Fred, Ellie, Faith, Tayven, Alexis, and Kane; his brothers; Larry (Julie) Schaapman and Leroy (Sarah) Schaapman; his sisters Betha (Bud) Oostema, Maryette Bender, and Garnette Martin; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and several close friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday December 11, 2021, at NorthShore Church, 318 W Northshore Drive Moses Lake, WA 98837.
