Obituary for Jay Owen Platt
Jay Owen Platt, 84, a Moses Lake resident and farmer passed away on August 4, 2019 at Central Washington Hospital, Wenatchee, WA.
Jay was born on October 17, 1934 in Cedar City, Utah to Jay Clair and Rheabell (Butterfield) Platt. He was raised and educated in Cedar City, Utah. Jay spent many hours in the mountains herding the family’s sheep. The family moved to New Plymouth, Idaho, that’s where he met his soon to be wife Jerilyn Cleverly and on February 9, 1955 they were married in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple.
Jay served in the United States Army for 2 years during the Korean War. Jay and Jerilyn lived in Olympia, WA where their first child, a daughter was born. They returned to New Plymouth, Idaho where Jay worked at a sawmill and their 2 sons were born. Jay moved his family to Salmon, Idaho where he owned an OK recap tire store. Later they moved to Moses Lake as Jay had an opportunity to farm with his father-in-law and Lybbert Farms, he resided in Moses Lake until his passing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jerilyn Platt of Moses Lake, daughter Jalyn (Rudy) van Bree of Kaysville, UT, sons, Stuart (Sheri) Platt and Spencer (Alveisa) Platt all of Moses Lake.
18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and all those who called him Uncle Jay and Grandpa Jay.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 10, 2019 with viewing from 9:00 am – 9:45 am all at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, 1515 South Division Street,
Moses Lake, WA. Presiding will be Bishop Randee Bergeson of the Moses Lake 6th Ward.
Concluding services will follow at Pioneer Memorial Gardens.
