Obituary for Richard R Baty

Richard Raymond Baty of Quincy, WA, passed away at the age of 67 on March 12, 2022.

He was born on July 28, 1954, in Powell, WY, to Melvin and Ionia Baty. The family moved to the Quincy area in 1967, where Richard graduated from Quincy High School in 1972. He worked over 40 years at ConAgra-Lamb Weston until his retirement in 2015.

Rich discovered a passion for golf after his children started to play in the late 1990s, and he became a beloved member of the golf community at Colockum Ridge Golf Course. He was a great sports fan, particularly of football and college basketball, and spent many years participating in a bowling league in Moses Lake. He was an avid reader, taking a book or Kindle with him wherever he went. His vegetable garden was always carefully planted with heirloom seeds; he loved to share his bounty with neighbors and family. Rich also had a lifelong love of music, from the classic rock he kept on the radio at home to symphonic metal, country, and bluegrass. His grandchildren brought him the greatest joy.

He is survived by his three children: Kirk (Camilla) Baty of Quincy, WA; Melissa Baty-McGovern (Casey McGovern) of Lacey, WA; and Shawn (Rachel) Baty of Ferndale, WA; seven grandchildren; a brother, Don, and two sisters, Beth and Karen. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 24, at 10:30 at Scharbach’s Columbia Funeral Chapel, 300 G Street SE, Quincy, WA with burial to follow at the Quincy Valley Cemetery.
