A Father to Many

Spending much of my younger years with his son Tom, Doug was like another father to me. Doug was not only the coolest bus driver for hundreds of kids, but he would take in any friend or neighbor of his children. I grew up in town about a stones throw from school but found many ways to get on the bus he drove just to travel to their house or stay on the entire route just to enjoy the ride. He would take on as many out of town sports team trips not getting much sleep at times just to be around great kids and help any way he could.

Several fishing trips with Doug and his son were often in a 1978 firebird where he would drag bottom on old back roads just to take us to the good spots. I ate a lot of fish from the basin, and still do thanks to Doug Mangold.

He was instrumental on my mechanical development as a teenager as Tom and I would ruin good motorcycles and he would show us how to fix them. He often would help random people with his mechanical knowledge, setting aside his own projects.

I could go on and on sharing stories that would be best told by his son. I feel the most important thing everyone should take into thier heart and remember him as, is one of the most generous men the community has ever known. He was calm, kind, loving and if he didnt say it... you knew what he was thinking. Deep in his eyes you could see the wheels turn in your direction as a great father, teacher, and the best bus driver ever!

The next fish I catch, I will be sure to look into the sky and make you proud Doug.
