A couple of years ago, I went to the Quincy Hospital Nursing Home to conduct services. There were two people sleeping in their wheelchairs and there was Eloise wide awake with a big smile to greet me.. So I opened my Bible and read from Scripture. Eloise helped me with the 23rd Psalm and prayed the Lord's prayer with me. Then I sat down at the piano and moved her next to me. We started with some old familiar hymns: What a Friend we have in Jesus, Amazing Grace, The Old Rugged Cross....all the while Eloise searching to find the old familiar words (or close to them) to sing along.
The "service" was over, but Eloise was so engaging that day, that I went on to play some fun tunes. We lost all track time. She tapped her fingers, her eyes danced and she had a look of pure joy on her face. That's when I realized that Eloise had turned the tables on me. I thought I came to minister to her but what I found out was it was she who was bringing light and life and joy to my life that day. I will cherish these memories always.
God bless and keep you Eloise.
Ann
