Obituary for Rex Morgan
Rex A. Morgan, 88, passed away on March 25, 2016 in Quincy where he had lived since November, 1953. He was born January 4, 1928 to Victor and Peggy (Ahlberg) Morgan in Omak, WA.
He graduated from Omak High School in 1946 and from Washington State University in 1951. Shortly before graduating from WSU, during the Korean War, he and other senior men were recruited into the United States Air Force as second lieutenants. Following basic training at Ogden, UT he was assigned to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Air Base at Chateauroux, France.
On February 23, 1952 he married Laurel Curran, whom he had met at WSU and she joined him in France that summer. Rex was honorably discharged in July, 1953, he and Laurel returned to Omak for a short time before moving to Quincy that fall where they opened a variety store. The store gradually grew into a small department store which they operated until it was sold more than twenty years later.
In 1976 they bought a farm near Quincy on which Rex planted an orchard and row crops. The farm was later sold to their son Warren. In 1986, Rex, at the age of 58, was instrumental in establishing Double Diamond Fruit, where he was the president for many years. After retiring as president, he continued as an active participant in the business until he was 87.
Rex was a member of the Quincy First Presbyterian Church, Quincy Rotary and the Quincy Chamber of Commerce.
He is survived by his wife Laurel Morgan of 64 years, children, Walter and Esther Morgan, Camille and John Stansell, and Warren and Heather Morgan, and grandchildren, Madeleine, Amanda, Carolyn, Chase and Connor. He is also survived by his sister Carol and Niles Severin, and brother, Walter and Robin Morgan, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Vicki Langill.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church, 715 Central Ave N., Quincy, WA.
