Obituary for Geraldine Iris Scott

Geraldine Iris Scott
Geraldine Iris Scott went to join her heavenly family on August 14, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, one grandson, one great-grandson, and multiple extended family members.

"Geri" was born to Mildred Augusta Risdon and Eaker Frank Jean on January 10, 1934, in Clifton, Arizona. She was later adopted by her stepfather, Charles Mansfield Rawls, and was thereafter known as Geraldine Iris Rawls—until age 15, when she married Glenn Irvin Scott on July 9, 1949, in Phoenix, Arizona.

Due to Glenn’s work on the railroads, Glenn and Geri moved frequently in the early years of their marriage. They developed countless deep, lasting friendships from Ohio to Arizona. They eventually set up residence in Arizona to raise their family. Then, after multiple visits to Washington State, they moved to Pateros, Washington in 1972. Work took them to Western Washington for a number of years, but they finally returned to Eastern Washington and settled in Ephrata, where they lived out the remainder of their lives.

Geri was active in her church, held various teaching positions, and hosted Family Home Evening for the older singles. She loved reading and discussing the scriptures, and watching family-oriented movies. An avid genealogist, she was always eager to share genealogy tips and any new discoveries she made in the family line. Her family—both past and present—were her greatest treasures.

Geri had a deep capacity for love and compassion for everyone she met. Once you were introduced, you were a friend for life. One of her greatest joys was making homemade cards, embroidering pillowcases, and scrapbooking for her many friends and family members. She also loved to receive homemade gifts from others, often saying that while making the gift, the giver had to have been thinking of her. She loved to travel and felt a deep connection to nature. Geri was most at peace while outdoors, whether she was listening to the waves wash against the ocean beaches, walking the wooded forests, or working in her garden and orchard. Her green thumb ensured that even the toughest plants would produce beautiful blossoms. She loved getting postcards and pictures from friends and family who traveled. Later, when her health started to fail, she would go through these items and review all of the places she had wanted to visit, saying the pictures made her feel like she had been there.

Geri had an intense desire to help others and felt that the best way for her to do this was to get a nursing license. It was one of her greatest accomplishments when she graduated from nursing school and was finally able to don her nursing cap and LPN name badge. She worked for many years at McKay Memorial Hospital in Soap Lake where she made lifetime friends with patients and staff alike.

Geri is survived by her two sons, Dwight Irvin Scott (Elizabeth) of Bonney Lake, Washington and Timothy Mark Scott (Andrea) of Ephrata, Washington; her seven grandchildren, Anne Scott from the East Coast, Seriah Scott of Seattle, WA, Jeromy Scott of San Antonio, TX, Clint Scott of Hermiston, OR, Stephanie Lock of Soap Lake, WA, Dwayne Scott of Shoreline, WA, and David Scott of Bonney Lake, WA; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Memorial services for Geraldine Iris Scott will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ephrata, Washington on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at 11:00 am. A luncheon will follow. In lieu of flowers, family members request donations in Geraldine’s honor be made to the Missionary Fund for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Please leave a memory for the family or sign their online guestbook at www.scharbachs.com. Scharbach’s Columbia Funeral Chapel, Quincy, is assisting the family with arrangements.
