I remember about the third time I met Mom, we were all getting in the car to go to Pateros, Dwight was very nicely holding the door open for me. I turned around and without thinking slammed the door shut...on Dwights fingers! He's starts yelling and was in so much pain he couldn't get the door open. I started laughing so hard I couldn't get the door open. He's standing there in pain, I cant quit laughing...Mom strides up to us and looks at me yelling "Just open the ____ door!!!" I never could quit laughing...she had to open the door to release his fingers. She kept looking at me like I was crazy... I guess she liked me, tho...she let me marry him.
Thats the kind of person she was...full of forgiveness and love for everyone.
She also was an adventurer...she loved to travel and experience new things. I remember when they moved to Brinnon to finish building a house for Bud Priest. She decided that since she was living on the canal and there was so much free food in the form of oysters on the beach, she was going to embrace the lifestyle and learn to cook oysters everyway she could. I think we all drew the line when she served oysters and eggs over easy for breakfast one morning. :( It put an end to oysters in any form for breakfast!!!
I have so many stories of her in my head and heart...I will miss her and am honored to have been her daughter in law.
